TURMERIC (Curcuma longa)
Use: Antioxidant/Liver support
Turmeric has been used in Traditional Chinese and
Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. The curcuminoids in
turmeric has undergone extensive research showing that
these are powerful compounds for supporting a healthy
inflammatory response after exertion, supporting immune
system function, providing antioxidant activity, and
supporting liver function, including detoxification and bile
flow. Curcumin has a low rate of GI absorption, which
means it can pass through the digestive system unchanged.
Bio-availability is the main concern. Studies show that
absorption is improved significantly when taken with black
pepper and healthy oils, such as coconut, borage, evening
primrose, black cumin seed, olive, avocado, and EPA/DHA
from sources such as flax, algae, and fish oils. Other foods
high in friendly fat are avocadoes, green olives, walnuts,
chia/flax seeds, sardines, herring, halibut and salmon.
